PGMP Doris Bateson, Lawrence, KS, #309

    Doris Bateson has been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1950 when she joined Mt. Oread Auxiliary No. 309, Lawrence, Kansas, as a charter member. Her dedication and love for the Eagles was generated from a long-time family involvement.

    Doris has served on many committees in her local Auxiliary, held all the offices and served as Madam President in 1968-1969. She has been a member of Auxiliary #309 Ritual Team since 1958 serving as the Jr. Past President for 21 years and as Madam President for the past 17 years. The team has been both State and National Champions.

    Doris was elected Kansas State Trustee in 1975, served as State Secretary for six years, Vice President, and served in 1983-84 as State Madam President leading her State to be a Bell Ringer. She has continued to work for her State serving on various committees and was the organizer of Auxiliary No. 3890, Osage City in 1980.

    Doris was appointed South Central Regional President in 1982-83. She has also served as the South Central Regional Chairman for the Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund, Heart Fund, as a Membership Chairman.

    Doris was elected to the office of Grand Madam Inside Guard at the 1990 International Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. She has continued serving the Grand Auxiliary as Madam Conductor, Madam Trustee for two (2) years, Madam Treasurer, Madam Secretary, and Madam Vice President and Madam President-Elect. At the 1998 International Convention held in Spokane, Washington she was elected to the highest office in the Grand Auxiliary, that of Grand Madam President.

    Doris works for a tax accountant each year from January 1st to April 15th scheduling appointments, collating tax returns, etc. Any free time is spent in local nursing home offering a smile, a hug, and a simple "hello" trying to brighten the lives of the lonely.

    She has a collection of Teddy Bears. She also collects Christmas Tree Ornaments.

    Her husband, LeRoy, is a Past State President of Kansas and Past South Central Regional President. They have two grown children, a son, Eddie, and daughter-in law Patti, and a daughter, Dana; all members of the Eagles. They have been blessed with five grandchildren and one great grandson.
